Mouths and Politics

(Note: this post was Scheduled.)

Politics sometimes makes us seem stupid. It certainly causes a lot of people, both public figures and everyday citizens, to talk way too much. And the Bible certainly warns us of talking too much. In fact…

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking,
But he who restrains his lips is wise. Proverbs 10:19

Politics also has a way of keeping a lot of ears closed; it’s just so easy to label Your Opposition as Left-Wing or Right-Wing as soon as they disagree with you. But that is also the way of sin, James admonishes us to…

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: James 1:19

I would emphasis all three commands in that. Be a Listener, Keep your mouth shut for a while, and don’t go all Hot-headed and ready to mouth off something foolish. Notice that both the last two are easily interconnected, often in anger we are quick to say something evil.

Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 29:20

It’s time we start being Quiet, I’m not telling you to agree with something evil, I’m saying we have to stop ourselves from becoming something we shouldn’t.

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. Proverbs 17:28

Christians should be loving, and sometimes that means we have to be quiet and listen to both the other person and what God is trying to tell us to do about it. It’s way too easy for us to be Like everyone else in the world, and just mouth off our political views (even though we don’t often consider whether we’re correct!).

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

There are a lot of liars out there. And there are a lot of fools. Let’s avoid being like the world.

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. James 3:2

What’s an Elephant again?

(Sequel to What’s an Elephant?) Alt title: Who is God again?

I wrote a post a while ago titled ” What’s an Elephant? “. In it I related the Fallacy of The Elephant and The Blind Men, a story where some blind men are trying to describe an elephant it instead they each touch one part of the elephant and relate it to each other saying that what they touched is what the elephant is like.

God’s Not an Elephant. Nor is He Deaf, Blind, or Dumb.

Proverbs 15:3 – The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
Isaiah 40:28 – Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, [that] the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? [there is] no searching of his understanding.
Jeremiah 23:24 – Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

The basic problem with the story is it ignores the Fact that God wants us to know who He is. The elephant probably couldn’t care any less, and I would imagine was annoyed (think about blind men touching You all over.) God isn’t sitting somewhere in the heavens ignoring the small planet we call earth. And if He did how would we ever learn anything more than that He created?

So, God Wants Us to Know Him.

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The Bible is His Word. The Bible is what He says about things, Including how to get to Him. To know God, know His Word. That’s why people attack it so much! They want to say that what it says doesn’t make sense. They say that ‘God’s Word is full of fables and stories that may have some truth or not’. Athiests attack the scientific and historic side of things, Religious scoffers attack the spiritual side.

God isn’t Passively Doing Nothing, His Word Speaks to our Hearts. His Prophets Speak with His Authority. He is Calling for Us to Come Learn Who He is, And To Act On That Knowledge.

Psalm 121:4 – Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Isaiah 55:11 – So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Want to Know God? Study the Word of God! He reveals Himself. No need for philosopizing. For asking those who have no real knowledge.

Here is something that Once happened to me.

A long time ago, I was playing one of those browser-based strategy games (Goodgame Empire) when Someone I never met just suddenly sent a PM to me, telling me how he had been looking for God but never found Him. Now at the time I was not really ready for that kind of discussion at All, but I did ask a good question. “Did you ever read the Bible?” To my surprise he said “No”. After a few back and forth messages, he finally said he was putting me on his ignore list (even though he started the conversation)

How Do You Expect to Ever Learn About God, To Find God, If You Never Read the Bible?

The Bible Tells Me That If You Actually Look For God, You’ll Find Him.

Jeremiah 29:13 – And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

2 Timothy 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth

What about all the other stories, fables, or parables? Like the many paths to the top of Mount Fuji? The many spokes on a wheel leading to one place? Are they at all valid? Why is the Bible right, and everybody else wrong? Is it some kind of Blind Faith, or is there some way of knowing things to be true?

God’s word has been proven Again and Again, there used to be a time when people scoffed that the world ever had a beginning. Same with a lot of other Biblical truths. The History has been proven again and again with archeological finds. Science actually makes more sense from a Biblical perspective.

John 3:12 – If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Acts 14:17  – Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

God knows we will have doubts, He knows that the Devil is going to be fighting to make sure that we never learn about Jesus, God, & Salvation. That’s why we have that witness. There are a lot of resources availiable to us.

Here are some Good places to Look:

Check out Lee Strobel’s Books: The Case for a Creator ; The Case for Faith ; & The Case for Christ. (& others)

Also Check out the Institute for Creation Research’s website and various Books, DVDs, Online Videos, etc. Start checking out the Scientific truth of the Bible at
(Check out their Free Publications!

Ultimately You’re going to have to read The Bible. I personally use the King James Version (and New King James Version) because I trust those versions the most.

Some people have made Versions of the Bible that Remove words and sometimes even ENTIRE Bible verses! Others Replace them with other words that Don’t mean the same thing at all. (example: removing the word Virgin, and replacing with Young Woman) If they remove the words Blood & Virgin. Then you know that you cannot trust those. (Look out for those, Most Bibles are probably fine. So look out!)

There’s a very well known Bible verse, some have called it the Gospel (Good News) in a Nutshell, I think I’ll end this post with it. Along with the next verse, I think it gives a good view of Who God Is.

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

You beleive there isone God, you do well … (james 2:19)

I am the LORD there is No Other … (Isiaih 45:5-6)

There is One God and One Mediator between Gd & man….. (1 timothy 2:5)
